chassis no. how many and where?
As per title really, I'm about to mark my chassis. What are the accepted methods, where do they need to be and how many?
I'm thinking of 1 stamped on the chassis rail in the engine bay and another stamped onto an ally plate riveted to a chassis bar in the drivers
foot well.
Will this be ok for SVA and the DVLA?

Don't stamp anything!!
Do not proceed any further until you have specific instruction from YOUR DVLA office.
You have been warned.
Now delete the other two posts

Does the chassis number not have to be printed for SVA then?

I would second that . many many on here have made up thier own number and been accepted and many many have been told strictly by thier local DVLA that
they must accept a number given by DVLA . which will be a 17 figure number starting with SABTVRO and yes it will need stanping on the chassis or on a
plate welded to the chassis and usualy another riveted somewhere . Ring them and ask, also make sure the letters are big enough

Have you been given your chassis number, or had it approved?
I read you post that you had'nt got one yet?
If you have then it still varies between the minimum of a single rivvetted ally plate and a chassis stamped 3 times or with welded plates!
Refer to your local DVLA'kers

I made the chassis number up when applying for SVA, they've written back and my chassis number is on the confirmation slip.

Sitting here in Florida, reading about MOT, SVA, DVLA, yada, etc... I just can't get over how regulated you Brits (in fact, any of the colonies)
are!
Granted, we have our own hoops to jump through, but I don't think even the Great Independent Republic of Californikation is as bad as what you
have to deal with on a daily basis. And television "licenses"??? (A license by any other name is STILL a TAX!)
Talking to a buddy (bloke?) at church yesterday who has been here for five years, says anyone in the US who complains about how bad things are should
have to live in Britian or Western Europe for at least a year

I am going through the DVLA hoops right now. For SVA I had a made up number on a riveted plate, this was fine.
At DVLA inspection, the guy was not sure my number would be accepetable, he called me back a day later to say that it was OK to use it. He also wanted
the chassis hard stamped by a garage and I need to provide a letter from the garage stating the number has been stamped into the chassis in the engine
bay, drivers side, I am getting this done today.
