New Headlight Options?

I have noticed some people have the smaller headlights that i like the look of
Can anyone give me any advice or point me in the right direction?

Check out Furore products (rossbost on here)
4.5" dominators are fairly common. questionale brightness and beam pattern has been reported on some. (they are chinese so I suspect tolerances and spec are changeable) about £30 each.

There are a few 'street figher' style projectors, i think some branded as 'Photons' are even smaller with a prismatic dome lens only. Look cool but lot dearer (£60 each for single (dipped OR main) , £120 for a combined twin dipped/main in a single lens.

Bung some hid conversion bulbs in them. That'll upgrade them!

I love them Photon's but too expensive imo :-/
The Dominators look nice but it sounds like i might run into problems at MOT time plus i'd like something that's a direct replacement and not have to make brackets for
Surely there must be something out there that looks awesome at the right price that fits
Cheers for the info tho, much appreciated

Daz.

p.s. Ben i would do that but my original chrome headlights are peeling and look crap (

Dominators should fit to the same bracket as you have now? Plus they pass mot no probs

I agree looks loads better but wot are the beams like compared to the originals?
So they are a direct replacement with no messing about?

Cool so they come complete with the bolt on the bottom so i can just fit them and forget it?
I'm guessing i'll just have to do a bit of wiring work on them?

Whilst its worth a risk beacuse they do look good and many havent had issues.
There are some people who have had beam pattern issues:

http://locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=174348

http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=155535

Even Russ has a guide on how to assist them with the beam pattern by rotating the lens
(quote from his website:
Dominator Headlamps
The Dominator headlamp has been around for about15 years now, but the Kitcar market has been slow to make use of them. They've been fitted to motorbikes & well known in the bike trade for most of that 15 years & are still immensley popular now. The lenses are just over 90mm & they measure approx 105mm across the diameter of the casing, hence smaller, lighter & less wind resistance than any other "traditional style" headlamp available - though not as small as the Projector lamps I sell.

Because they were originally intended for motorcycle use the headlamp pattern is basically flat. I was told by my SVA tester on 22/12/08 that a flat beam is completely legal in the UK, I believe it is the British/American beam pattern. In the new IVA regs it has been made quite clear that a flat beam pattern IS acceptable. However, most Mot testers expect to see a “kickup” to the left. If you look at the beam closely, it is in fact a shallow angle “V” which if you rotate the lamp by 15 degrees gives the required “kickup” for the standard UK beam pattern.

Hence, remove the lens & file a new slot about 12-13mm to the right (when viewed from the front) to locate the lens.

I have had no issues at all with my dominators passing MOT, and although I have little to compare them with they may well not be any worse then any other lamp of the same price, given if nothing else, how low both the lights and driver are. I also put some phillips 'nightbreakers' bulbs in them which helps a little. Every little helps tbh.

The main issue I have is not the flat beam, but the large space between main and dipped, which I think stems from the being designed to be mounted much higher than they are on a kitcar.

Recently I have been told, contrary to my previous believes, that a H4 bulb will last ok with both filaments lit at the same time, whether the casing can then dissipate the heat fast enough, I dont know, but it could be an option for someone willing to test it.

Also recently had to repaint mine, as the factory powder coat only lasted about three years, rusting around the front and going matte on top. T two years in the hamerite smooth I re-did them in appears to be holding up better but who knows.

Nice to have met you Daz ( and the Boss, of course)
You can get black Dominators from here, and if you contact russbost on here, and give him the secret handshake, he may knock a bit off the price
