Until Mercedes allow other teams to develop their engines, and there is some relaxation of the rules regarding car design, F1 will continue to be the
boring contrived 'show' that it is. Even I, a motorsport enthusiast, cannot watch it any further. Not the BBC's fault, but it just
isn't a sport that is worth paying Bernie for. One car, one of two drivers will win, whoever Mercedes decide should do.
However, that said, there really is an issue here with what we're (I'm) getting for my licence fee. BBC news is now dumbed down and
unchallenging, endless reality, competition shows and house purchase porn. Indistinguishable now from the commercial offerings.
News for me is now Al-J and RTV, OK biased I know, but still slightly challenging.
BBC - Pay For View please! Scale the operation down accordingly, kill those vast public sector hordes, the vast salaries, payoffs and pensions.

sorry m8, but top gear was children's entertainment, to the extent even my 15 yr old grandson said it was crap
the last programme I saw on TV was Guy Martins Vulcan, a few weeks ago
TV now is for women, in fact my wife is glued to the TV from about 1300-2200 a day, keeps me happy !!

Whatever anyone's personal view of Top Gear , as far as I can tell there is no disputing it is sold all over the world and makes (or made?) a
LOT of money for the BBC? And I'm guessing that 15 yr olds are not the target audience?
But what do I know just my thoughts and opinions .

I'm with Steve, top gear's had its day with clarkson the catalyst for its final demise, not the BBC. Ecclestones killing F1 which is going
the same way. Hamilton didn't even get a look in at the sports personality of the year award, shows the direction of public perception. A costly
lame excuse for entertaining competitive Motorsport, of which it is very little of either. BBC are best shot of it and concentrating on better value
programmes which actually provide some level of entertainment.

Now that is an interesting question.
It's the incredible concept of the Public Sector, they have a guaranteed tidal wave of known money every year, so can pretty much flush it down
the toilet without consequence. The trough will be filled, salaries, pensions and payoffs all very easily catered for.
In the real world, you do what you can with the limited budget at the time, or fold if you can't.... unless you're too big to be allowed
to fail like some....

Yep - less sport, more strictly is basically bbc policy these days.
Honest question - outside of 4 yearly stuff like the olympics and the world cup, how long before BBC sport becomes highlights only for major sporting
events?
I mean, even the so called 'protected' list of events is a fluid thing. The bean counters are never going to choose sports over formats
and shows they can sell on the international market. I give it 10, maybe 15 years.
Sad really, as with the right funding they have proved, time and again, that they can do an excellent job e.g. London 2012 and its infinite streams of
sports.

But the BBC isn't just dumping coverage: Channel 4 is taking on the contract.
One would assume that C4 will pick up the tab for the remaining period of the contract (and possibly legal fees as well). So long as Bernie is getting
his money, I don't suppose he'll be too worried where it's coming from!
