do police hand held camera guns have a built in digital camera
Went past one today and felt i got caught but was not stopped. I dont know the speed limit or if i was 10% over.
They seemed in no rush to chase and stop any speeders and would have trouble pulling people over on a dual carrageway at a round about.
Do they just take photos with the hand held and send it through now?
Track days ARE the best thing since sliced bread, until I get a supercharger that is!

Not sure about camera's but I got stopped once and he showed me the screen on a hand held. I did question the reading and asked for proof that
it was taken against my car. They could not show any evidence that it was actually a reading from my car and gave me the "talking too".
I was lucky that time.....

I've have seen hand held digi cameras with an officer on a bike. i know it was because he caught me! fCUker.
Was still quite a big unit. chances are it was just a laser and he was waiting for a real speedy speeder.

Afaik, the BiN are considered 'expert witnesses' and as such, they don't need photos as evidence. Their word is all they need....

No they don't have cameras
As stated above their word is good enough
They would have stopped you there and then, the range is good enough that they would have a reading before you were aware they were there
If they wanted to stop you they had plenty of time, you got away with it

I do hope so. I was sat at traffic lights and could see them ready. I was the first car in the fast lane. I drove past them sensibly so about 34 in a
40. Then just as i went past had sudden doubt that the road maybe 30! I looked for signs though the rest of the road and spotted none.
I dont think the other fella was watching the cars, certainly not concentrating enough to act as a witness in court.
The road is a main rat run for London bound traffic. Give it 5mins and they will have someone doing 50.

If there were no repeater signs of the lmit and there were lamp posts, then it's 30mph. No lamp posts or repeater signs, it's national
speed limit. One of the usefull things learn't on a speed awareness course 
If it was a hand held i think they (or other officers stationed further down the road) have to stop you.

Slightly related - out of curiosity, when you get a camera speeding (or congestion charge) ticket, do they automatically send you a photo of your car?
If not, is there any downside to requesting one?

Not true, I have been caught twice in the last two years, first time I only knew about it when the fine came through in the post, second time 3 months
ago and I thought I saw something in the lay by, then 2 weeks later the letter arrived.
I was not even going much over the limit
if you are lucky you will get a speed awareness course, that did that in lieu of t he first one.

I don't know if you get a photo automatically for those offences, but I know for a fact you do with council run bus-lane cameras..

The usual rule of thumb most police forces use is an allowance of 10% plus 2 mph. So they are unlikely to nick you for doing 34 in a 30 limit.
Its not guaranteed though, you could still be unlucky.

I don't know if it's still the case but my dad got done by one in the mid 90's and they said if he wanted to see the photo he had to
take it to court where the punishment is alot higher.

Its not a rule of thumb, its the ACPO 'guidelines' for prosecution. If you do 1mph over the speed limit, in any limit you could get done
for it, its just very unlikely, as most of the time the guidelines will be adhered to. This is to ensure several things, IF it were to go to court, a
conviction is more likely to sticks. I also gives a better 'impression' of the police, that they arent all out to catch the easy pray
speeder etc. and most importantly, a v.small percentage over limit isnt that dangerous anyway, even the police know that.
