DIY car lift
There isn't much clearance under the car and even a trolley jack and axle stands don't make enough room to work under it. Proper car
lifts cost big money but I'm willing to have a go and make something. What would you suggest I copy, sorry, take inspiration from?

If its for a 7 or other light car (with a flat bottom) have a look at the lifts used for sevicing motorcycles, basically a flat table on 2 hinged
frames that can be raised by a jack

Nice suggestions. The car is too low at the front for ramps but the big long ones with trolley jacks are interesting. I was thinking of
cannibalising a trolley jack for the mechanism and fitting it to something that will raise the whole car and by a decent height.

I use the two ton engine crane i bought to put the engine in, made a lifting beam from old angle iron, use web straps on the roll bar. i can then lift
it onto stands at a good working hight.

I made some stands a while ago that I use with the ramps off my trailer but seeing the ones in the above link
has got me thinking.
 
long ramps
If I made something to raise the end and could hook on a sort of mini ramp I then could get the jack under much easier.

I use an alloyracing jack from machine mart. I goes under a treat and then use axle stands for safety. Be carefull making a diy system as it could
fail on you.

There are tilting ones you can get, one guy on a MX5 forum I go on had one. It lifted to a good height but also tilted - sounded quite expensive to
buy but maybe a worm drive for the tilting bit might work (somehow)

How about 'tube stands' like the rally boys use - you will need to weld a tube to your chassis (in rally cars its a tube welded into the
sills) and the stands have a 'pin' that slides into the tube. They don't look very substantial, but my next door neighbour has his
subaru rally car stood up on them so they'll certainly be strong enough for a seven.
I've put a picture in my archive cos I can't remember how to stick it in the message!

I knocked this up the other day, goes under a treat, and levers enough access to then get a "proper" jack under. drawings available by

I have a DIY set of similar to the above, that I made a while ago, for sale if anyone is interested?
(Don't know what they're worth, but I've been out of work nearly a month now and still not a snifter of work, so trying to sell
everything I've got!)
