Summary
I think the response to this poll has been great and all who have changed their avitars to be worksafe should be thanked.
Hopefully in the future when new folks join etc and avitars drift back to being non worksafe these indiviuals will happily accept requests to tame
thiem down until the "fix" is put in.
I think the fact some changed their avitars so quickly with no strops shows how well the forum do respect its members and is self policing.
I think a some good points have been made
1- although this is a car site and it is also the web and freedom of choice should exist but
2- we are all a friendly bunch of folks and if a friend asks you to be a little more considerate towards their particular curcumstances you would
respect that
3- short term "cleaning" the avitars is great until the "watershed" type fix can be put in place
4- if avitars are not "cleaned" then the amount of worktime vistis by some contributors may reduce as the risk of "being
caught" is too high.
5- furure requests to "clean" and avitar should be taken as a friendly request not a request from "boring old fart" from the
netnanny.
I for 1 thank all how have made my daily browse less stressfull and save me watching over my shoulder like a porn browser.

I for one dont care much either way.
But, the theme here keeps going on about keeping the 'majority' happy by getting rid of these avatars.
not true, the majority have voted that they dont mind at least some nudity/bikini's..
If you change an avatar, fair enough, but its for the skiving minority, not the majority of users.
Me, I could be offended by some other avatars, which I find offensive, but not in a sexist way.
However, I have a cup of tea and bacon roll, so have more interesting things to deal with!!

Personaly I think it's a bit poor that people who want to spend the day surfing at work are imposing their position onto others.
That said, this should be a familly oriented website so I wouldn't want to see anything really dodgy, but can't see the harm in a pic of a
nice looking woman. After all I wouldn't be offended if Fozzie wanted to put a pic of the chipendales in her avatar as long as nothing
was...err..hanging out.

It might be only a minority that dont wan't the risque avatars, but they're hardly being selfish imho. The situation is either we give up
looking at some pictures of boobies, or they have to give up looking at the site at all!! Hardly comparable sacrifices - I think it'd be
extremely petty and discourteous for the rest of us to pull the majority wins angle in this kind of situation.
I'm all for boobies and think the modifications to the forum are an excellent idea, but until then I reckon we shouldn't alienate a
minority of users just to express our right to have non worksafe avatars.

How about we put a limit on the size of the avatar like 160x160 pixels, then when your boss looks over your shoulder you'll only have to scan
down 4 lines of the post to hide it. (and all that will be left for your boss to see is the debate your having about porn.)
Naked women and cars go together. Even Newark think so:

This is essentially a car website, yes.
But, we also debate jobs, family, bereavment, legal issues, politics, war, and ocassionaly, some of us actually have a bit of a laugh here too!!
(Stop Ze Laughing, NOW!! Zis is der CAR Builders site!! You will be going on Ze list!!)
So, its not JUST for car building, otherwise, it would be as boring and techy as some other sites, and half of us wouldn't be here!!
We're like Top Gear. Mostly about cars, sometimes about stuff, sometimes funny, and , just occasionaly, subject to a bit of Benny Hill level
titilation.
And to agree with someone else, I object to the vocal minority forcing the rest of us.
(BTW i have a really dull CAR avatar)
If you dont like the Avatars, then-
resize your IE window so that it only takes up three quarters of the screen.
Then move the horizontal scroll bar all the way to the right.
PRESTO!! you cant see any avatars.

Re the argument that people shouldnt browse at work - I Don't know about elsewhere, but out here in SA we still get a lunch break, which is when
I catch up on LB. Our IT policy has no problem with surfing then, but the rules on content are not suspended for the duration.
That said, my original concern was at home, where I might have daughters, their friends or a visiting mother in law looking over my shoulder.

Im a network administrator at a university, and constantly having ban students for unsuitable pictures on the server. You can tell when they've
been to porn sites cus the network cache is full of naughty pics. But there's no way I'd ban a student for a few 200x200px images that
have obviously come from avatars or pop-ups.

Crikey a long thread that I can't be bothered to read all of!
Basically, keep it to scantily clad, job done, simple as that.
No probs with children then, and if employers object to that then they will probably object to using the site at work at all so who cares!
I can understand the issues with nudity, personally I love weldermans avatar but I can fully understand the issues and think its not really right for
a family friendly site.
Just keep the girl pics on a similar level to those on the covers of magazines visible to kids in any supermarket and I don't see any issue.
As for "relevance", what a load of old tosh, put up what the hell you like as a pic, within the bounds of decency as above!
This site is great, had a discussion to that effect with somebody who uses another website for their car club the other day, and they have moderators
that pull posts that criticise them and all sorts of political bull.
