WOW

Can't understand why the original post went missing. Maybe the site is playing up again, so just thought I'd post a new thread to let everyone know about it.

[courtesy of GTS website]
At the bottom of this page you will find links to download the GTs40 brochure, build manual and chassis drawing packs.

The GTs40 kit has been designed to accept a range of common donor car components, and other bespoke components from GTS and other leading distributors.

The GTs40 kit is our take on the iconic Ford GT-40. The chassis and suspension have been re-specified by Formula One design engineer and GTS proprietor Darren George to over come the donor parts issue and also make completing the SVA test easier.

The chassis design is available as a set of plans, to keep with the GTS theme of build as much by yourself as possible, or as part of our comprehensive kit. Customers can buy any single item from the range of parts available. GTS prides itself on being a useful source of help to all our customers feel free to call us with your queries.

The kits pricing has been kept in line with our other products and services in that it offers superior quality and an unrivalled price. With our background in high performance racing car technology, we bring quality and engineering excellence to a market that suffers from a low cost = low quality thinking. GTS keeps prices down by keeping overheads low and not sacrificing quality.

perhaps they've bought the moulds and rights to market it or summat - it does say "The chassis and suspension have been re-specified by Formula One design engineer and GTS proprietor Darren George "

If it does look like that and you can put a rover v8 in it I'm buying one!!

Christ! these cost 45 grand ready built! I will bite their arm off if GTS are offering a locost version (ie I could build it for less than 10 grand!)

It IS MDA's !

I am sure that car was bodied/developed by Chris Melia... not GTS.....
But.. again I could be mistaken....

There is slight differences between the two pic's bonnet catches and hinges, plus the bonnet number two also looks to be again in a slightly different location...not much in it and I think the wheels are not the same. Maybe this is two copys of a famous race car, bit like copy's of herbie...

Ones also got a wiper and a different shape of bump in the roof.

Most (if not all) of the GT40 replicas I've seen at shows have had chassis and suspension that look more suited to tractors or trailers than proper race cars. Bugger-all triangulation with no concept of 'adding lightness' just massive chunks of box section.
If GTS release a decent replica of (IMHO) a good looking car, that's got a well designed chassis and running gear... all at a cheap price.... then brilliant! Who could possibly object???

For £4K I'm bloody tempted myself.....

How hard is it to turn it into a Ford GT rather than a GT40 by the way?

And where do I buy a bloody great super charger???

Cheers,
James

I think you'll find your all wrong. It was Eric Broadley and John Wyer who were and are responsible for the iconic shape not GTS or MDA......Hats off to GTS for making a copy so affordable....Oli.

I dont think that anyone has said that GTS or MDA were responsible for the original shape Oli..

I think, the surprise is that GTS are showcasing the same Shelby owned, colour and number (2) as MDA uk!

It was only in that colour scheme for one race, albeit Le Mans...

When, to the populous at large, the number 6 in light blue and marigold (Gulf colours) driven by Jackie Ickx was more famous...

Ah well.....

Then surely MDA are equally at fault by showing a picture of a car that isn't their's either! However to answer the question I would imagine its due to expense....its an awful lot cheaper to spray a car solid black and the detail than it is to paint it in the gulf oil colours which would probably also invoke a lot of copyrights etc.
I think a call to GTS is in order....I want to know if thats the finished car or not....if so I want the drawing pack! I find it quite funny though that those of you damning it is a rip off haven't said whether you like it or not, merely that there most be some underhanded goings on at GTS. We've established its obviously a good copy and that its £4K so will you get over the GTS thing enough to stump up? I for one am for the first time finding myself drawn towards GTS in this case. How long till MK do a take on a classic race car that obviously will be an original piece of work and not a clone in any shape or form? Oli.

I fear the cost of Engine and Transmission will not make this a cheap option.

Can someone correct me? Is it feasable to take a FWD engine and stick it in the back?

Maybe the Boxer engine from a Subaru would be nice :-)

4.2 v8 audi with transaxle would be the budget option to go for imho, saw an engine for £600 the other day, very tempting..

this replica sounds good, I'll be interested to see the chassis design and a demo car at detling or stoneleigh.

Ned.

If that makes you wince, try buying the windscreen!!! I notice it's not mentioned in the kit.

And Construction and Use regs (and SVA ) require that the glass adjacent to the drivers seat is made of appropriate safety glass and marked as such. Those side windows are going to cost a bomb! Widscreen and side windows will make the cost of the kit look very tame!

Cheers,
Syd.
