So will tonight be the great shut off
Well looks like the swabbles between the media baron and the media whore have broken down. Might set my recorder to see if Sky give a final bleep you
before cutting the feed.
Well so much for VM and their half arsed generic "lifestyle clip art" brochures with no substance" mentality.
If it wasn't for cable being poo hot compared to ADSL for on line games I'd tell VM to nutsack and go Sky.

If we loose the channels, virgin say they are so good value for money (excuse me whilst I choke) that they don't need to drop the price in
proportion to loosing one of their prime channels.
In the mean time the customers get a rectal rodgering.

Given a choice between Branson and that arse at Sky, I'd choose Branson. I don't like bullies and Sky's decision to double their
rates is just a way to try to force people to swap to his service, so deliberatly, I won't. I'd rather pay for DVDs than give in and
switch to Sky.
The only programmes I watched on Sky One were stargate SG1 (which finishes forever in 2 episode's time) and stargate atlantis (whose 3rd series
also finishes in 2 episode's time).

Well it ended last night with the screen freezing on a picture of a volcano exploding. Quite amusing really.
All for the fsking sake of a tenner a year per customer.
Sky apparently even asked for the possibility of marketing direct though cable but VM didn't want to know.

So Sky, who have channels that people want and pay a shed load of cash to put the series on that people want to watch aren't allowed to price
their channels to a level tha they want?
RB has bullied smaller organisations to get what he wants on the way up, that's business. They are now at the point of having exactly the same
done to them and they don't like it. I think it's hilarious that Virgin are comparing Sky One to Bravo!
I did look at swapping to virgin but now this has happened there is no way that I will, tHere are too many decent programs on sky one.

Shouldn't be allowed? What are you on?
Why is it that some people think that because you don't like something you are therefore demanding that it be banned?

Maybe I wasn't clear. Sky are selling the channels, if VIrgin don't want to pay for them then they shouldn't pay for them.
I don't agree with their "Sky are being bullies" stance.

How did you get Vigin Media? Did they take over an existing service? Or is it through cable or something?
Have they gone completely or is it just the sky channels gone from VM?
Have missed out on all this new VM stuff.

Virgin Media is a merger between Virgin mobile and NTL:Telewest.
Sky have almost doubled the price they want to charge for Sky One and some other stuff. Whilst they can charge what they want for their own stuff, it
seems clear that their motive is to withdraw Sky One from their rival's TV service. It is suspected that their motive is to twist the arm of
Virgin customers and force them into swapping to Sky TV. It is bullying in the sense of "do what we say or else". I guess it is more
accurate to describe it as extortion rather than bullying.

At the same time Sky are doubling their prices other companies (including Virgin Media) are reducing their prices for selling their programmes to
others including Sky.
Virgin had a simple choice - accept the price Sky demanded and have to pass this on to customers or do as they have done and refuse to pay. I guess
there are a few principles at stake here so they chose the latter.
If, as a customer, you desperately want the sky channels you can get them, but presumably will have to pay more per month than the VM price - maybe a
lot more than £10 per year extra. Personally, I don't think any of them are worth paying for so I am happy to stick with my digi box.
We do live in a society where some choice still exists - Sky are free to choose how much they charge for their programmes, VM have a choice about
whether to pay the prices requested from their suplliers. Individuals have a choice about which supplier to use.
To compare it with Locosts, a kit manufacturer may well be able to offer an engine to its customers but if the price they paid for that engine
doubled, at teh same time that supplier was paying the company less for items they bought of them the kit company would probably stop offering that
engine as increasing the price to cover that would lose them customers. If the customer desperately wanted that engine they would then go elsewhere.
Branson has generally gone into ventures where he fights a large competitor but offers customers a better overall deal - don't see anything
different here.

From a guy at work (I barely tolerate freeview )
For those of you on cable, you probably know Sky One, Sky News etc have been removed from the channel line-up. I've been talking to them both
this morning, and thought I'd share their offers:
Virgin Media offered to reduce my monthly bill for TV, phone and Broadband from 38/mth to 30/mth. They claim they're doing this for all
customers who phone up. Approx wait on hold was 20 minutes.
Sky will currently give you a Sky+ box for 49 quid with no extra subscription fee (10/mth for sky+ on their website). That's with a normal TV
package at 21/mth. Installation date in about 2 weeks time. Approx wait on hold was 10 minutes.
So if you don't care for the Sky channels, give Virgin a call anyway just to save a bit of money.

My brother just managed to get Sky+ box and installation for free, though he did have to spend a long time on the phone to get it.

I rang the Virginmedia 'hear our side of the story' phone number (0800 0521139 if anyone is interested) and the electronic lady says that
the Virgin on demand service will eventually incude 'lots of new series including all three series of Lost very soon.'
I have to say that Sky has got most of the new TV series that I actually bother to stay in the house to watch and I feel annoyed that to continue
watching them I will have to change to another provider.
