Nothing to loose by seeing whats out there mate!! I've done it before myself - walked out the door with a nice £14k cheque and straight into a
similar role. That paid for my first kit car in full!! Just keep it close to your chest

I worked for Nortel, a year or so after I started they employed nearly 7000 people on our site, which was down to a few hundred when it was bought by
another company, and is now down to about 120. Living with the continued threat of redundancy is horrible, you have my sympathies.
