put one light coat on ,go outside for 10 mins, back in one heavy coat leave for 1/2 hour then back in with a slightly thinned mixture and go over again fairly lightly. thats my way and works fine but others will have more experience

or did he leave the spoon in his cup of tea ?

I've just done a veedub bonnet in 2pac. Pretty much did it as above. It does take a few days to harden though . So don't be tempted to touch it too early.

It really does worry me that so many people just ignore the safety precautions for these materials.

When folk say "Don't use it you will die",it is not a challenge, it is fact.

I worked in the paint industry for over 10 years and took all the precautions necessary. I know of many people who have serious breathing and other health issues, who also took the correct precautions, from working and using these materials. I have to live with Leukaemia and am only in my forties.

These warnings are not just folk scaremongering. Any material that uses Cyanide is DEADLY!

Sorry to rant about this, but it is very easy to be flippant whilst you are still young!

Is he prepared to stand next to you while you're painting?

By the way unless you are a registered bodyshop the guy who sold it to you broke the law (assuming he did sell you 2 pack)

the paint is from autopaints

U-POL
CONTAINS: XYLENE, MIXTURE OF ISOMERS

Is this a 2 pack paint?

Sounds like 2 part paint(not the same as 2 pack confusingly enough) If you go to the u-pol website (http://www.u-pol.com) you can download the H&S datasheet for the product you have.

Mark Allanson has some advise on spraying it in this thread

Xylene isn't nice stuff but nothing like as bad as cyanide compounds.

The correct mask is worse than useless unless it is driven by a vane compressor, and if it is not a positive pressure airfed mask, it is NOT the correct mask.

If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

Now somebody is thinking: that's my idea for colours! With orange seats though...

Why take a chance with all this deadly paint stuff. Why not just pay some guy to do it? A few hundred should do a set of locost body parts??? I'm as proud as the next guy, but I'm not insane!!
